North Texas Medical Research Institute was founded by Mohammad Burney MD, Jeff Neumann, PA, and Kelly Payette MBA with the idea of helping those that we attend to everyday and improving patient outcomes. Since then it has been grounded in the goal of advancing our medical knowledge and treatment options for the people we care for by researching various treatments and devices that will help our patients live their lives to the fullest.
We strive to conduct sound research for the advancement of medical knowledge and treatments in order to lift the burden of disease from our community.
We will enhance modern medical practice through our research and experimentation.
Dr. Umar Burney is the founding and managing partner of Orthopedic Specialists of Dallas, North Texas Medical Research Institute, and Complete Operations Management Solutions. As a surgeon , he focuses time and energy providing his patients with the best clinical outcomes through evidence-based medicine.
Dr. Umar Burney was born in Madison, Wisconsin. His parents were both in teaching profession and they inculcated an importance for learning and education. Living abroad during his high school years, he had the unique opportunity to graduate with a Secondary Education Certification from the University of Cambridge, England. He returned to University of Wisconsin to complete his undergraduate degree in Medical Microbiology and Immunology with a special interest in "Communicative Diseases of the Third World." Dr. Umar Burney attended Saint George's University School of Medicine, Grenada and was voted member Iota Epsilon Alpha International medical honors society his sophomore year. He then completed his internship and orthopedic surgical residency at Louisiana State University Shreveport, where he received several awards for excellence in Basic Science Research and Anatomy. After graduating from LSU, Dr. Umar Burney completed a Sports Medicine & Joint Replacement Fellowship under the Tutelage of Drs. Leland Winston and Thomas Clanton at the University of Texas Houston Medical School. Dr. Umar Burney is dual Board Certified in General Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Surgery.
Dr. Burney continues to pursue an active role in clinical and bench research , collaborating with various medical device manufacturers for design, testing and enhancement of their product. He also maintains interest in academia, presenting on various topics in regional and international conferences, along with serving as faculty in Orthopedic Residency programs and educational seminars.
Jeff Neumann was born and raised in Michigan and graduated from high school at Ellison High School in Killeen, Texas. From there he obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas - Arlington with a major in biology and minor in chemistry with honors. He then matriculated to the UT Southwestern PA program where he graduated with a master’s in physician assistant studies with honors and also was a school representative for the Texas Academy of PA's. He has been practicing as a PA in orthopaedic surgery since 2012. His interests also are deep set in research, both for clinical and benchwork. He has been a clinical coordinator on multiple studies ranging from academic/single investigator studies to NIH granted studies, including device and drug studies. As one of the founding members and CEO, Mr. Neumann hopes that this invaluable experience as a lead coordinator and as clinical leader in his role as a PA will help guide NTMRI to be a part of something greater and positively contribute to our overall medical knowledge base. In his spare time, he enjoys hanging out with his wife and four kids, reading, rock climbing, and being outside.
Kelly Payette is the and Chief Financial Officer of North Texas Medical Research Institute (NTXMR). Kelly has over 15 years’ experience in the healthcare field and is known for her strong and professional business acumen. Kelly has an MBA degree and a BS degree in Healthcare Management. She is a member of many organizations including the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and the Texas Administrator’s Society (TBONES). She also serves as a mentor to many young females in business.
Kelly’s entrepreneurial spirit and passion for the healthcare field is what drove her to collaborate with Dr. Umar Burney and Jeff Neumann to create their own research institute. Kelly has many other healthcare ventures and has proven success and a reputation for ensuring transparent and accurate financial information.
